Hey everyone, Renee here! Summer is officially in full swing, and I've already been lucky enough to sneak in a few weekend getaways. These trips have been invaluable in helping me refine my summer travel essentials – the must-have products and tools that keep my skin and hair happy and healthy while I'm on the go. Because let's be honest, travel is also about a little bit of pampering! This isn't about deprivation; it's about streamlined self-care. I’m all about simplifying my routine while still enjoying a touch of luxury. So, let's dive into what I'm packing for my summer adventures.

Overpacking is a temptation I've wrestled with in the past, especially when it comes to sunscreen (can you ever have too much?). I'm also not a fan of meticulously decanting products into tiny travel bottles. Ain't nobody got time for that! The one exception? Shampoos and conditioners. I strategically save almost-empty bottles specifically for trips so I can use them up and leave them behind. Less to carry home – winning!

When it comes to organizing my beauty goodies, I’m a die-hard fan of clear toiletry bags. Forget cute patterns and fancy designs; nothing beats the practicality of see-through. Waterproof, easy to clean, and seriously durable – I’ve had some of mine for literally 20 years! Another game-changer? Elastic silicone sleeves. They’re like magic, leak-proof armor for your bottles and jars. They fit over pumps, wide-mouthed containers – you name it – and keep everything securely sealed. Even if a leak does happen (it happens!), the mess is contained. Genius! I recommend getting a multi-pack with various sizes to accommodate all your different products.

Summer Skincare Saviors: Protection and Hydration

Summer travel is all about protection, especially from the sun. And since we're currently experiencing a heatwave, it should come as no surprise that my number one essential is Vitamin C serum.

Poems From The Lab Future Focus Vitamin C Serum

The Vitamin C serum I'm absolutely loving right now, and which happens to be perfect for travel, is the Future Focus Vitamin C Serum from Poems From The Lab. It boasts 15% L-Ascorbic Acid, a potent concentration for brightening and antioxidant protection. But what I really appreciate is the airtight packaging. This clever design helps prevent oxidation, keeping your Vitamin C potent and effective for longer. It dispenses a precise droplet at a time, preventing wastage and ensuring you use just the right amount. The texture is wonderfully weightless – a must for summer when I want to avoid heavy layers on my skin. It absorbs quickly without any stickiness, leaving my skin feeling smooth and prepped for sunscreen.

The Ordinary Retinol 0.2% Emulsion

Vitamin C is my morning active, while retinoids take center stage in the evening. For travel, I've been using The Ordinary's Retinol 0.2% Emulsion. It feels similar in strength to my prescription tretinoin (0.2% retinol is no joke!), but the travel-friendly size is a major plus. I’m long past the retinization phase, so no worries about irritation. This emulsion is a great way to maintain my retinol routine while on the go without having to decant my larger bottle.

Secocet Gentle Line for Sensitive Skin Moisture Protect Mist

Hydration is key, especially in the summer heat. For shorter trips, I usually just pack a travel-sized face mist. I'm currently obsessed with this adorable one from Secocet's Gentle Line for Sensitive Skin. It's a light yet incredibly hydrating mist that's super calming and soothing – perfect for when your skin gets overheated from all the summer fun. The fine mist is refreshing and doesn't disrupt my makeup.

Luxurious Hydrogels

Speaking of pampering, travel is my excuse to indulge in all my favorite sheet masks. I hoard those luxurious hydrogels and then bust them out on vacation. It’s the ultimate relaxation ritual! Plus, they’re lightweight, take up minimal space, and you don’t have to bring them back home. I love trying out different varieties with various benefits, from hydrating to brightening.

Dalba White Truffle Double Serum and Cream: The Customizable Moisturizer

Moisturizer is a non-negotiable, no matter the season. Even in the summer, your skin needs that protective layer. It’s all about finding the right consistency – something that hydrates without feeling heavy. Lately, I’ve been using this incredibly innovative moisturizer from Dalba – their White Truffle Double Serum and Cream. You know I’m a fan of Dalba’s First Spray Serum and their UV Essence. This brand is inspired by the luxurious white truffles from Piedmont Dalba in Italy, and these “underground diamonds” are the star ingredient in all their formulas. Packed with antioxidants, vitamins, minerals, and amino acids, white truffles are a powerhouse of skin-nourishing goodness.

What makes this moisturizer so unique? Each jar contains two separate formulas: the Aqua Serum, a rich gel, and a denser cream. You mix them together to create the perfect texture for your skin’s needs, customizing your own oil-water balance. This is a game-changer for travel because I only need to pack one moisturizer for both day and night. During the day, I prefer a lighter texture, so I use more of the Aqua Serum. At night, I opt for a richer, more comforting feel, so I increase the amount of cream. It’s completely customizable! The Aqua Serum is a substantial gel, but it’s surprisingly non-sticky. And the cream, despite its richness, doesn’t feel greasy, heavy, or oily. I also love how beautifully the two formulas blend together. Dalba has also ensured this formula is non-comedogenic and clinically tested for acne-prone skin, which is a huge relief for those who hesitate to moisturize during the summer. I usually mix the two in my hands, but if you have oilier skin, try two parts Aqua Serum to one part cream for a lightweight, hydrating gel-cream. For my combination skin, I typically do a half-and-half mix – it’s the perfect balance and gives the most amazing “truffle glow.” If you have drier skin, try two parts cream to one part serum. You can even customize it further by applying the Aqua Serum to your T-zone and the cream to drier areas, then blending them together. It has a light, warm, and summery scent, but be aware if you’re sensitive to fragrance. This simple yet brilliant concept allows for truly personalized hydration, adapting to any environment, season, or time of day.

  • Customizable texture, non-comedogenic, suitable for all skin types.

Sunscreen: A Non-Negotiable for Summer

Sunscreen is absolutely essential for summer travel, and I have two main criteria: it has to be resistant (water, sweat, friction – the works!) for long-lasting, reliable protection, and it has to be something I can use on both my face and body.

P20 Sun Care for Kids SPF 50+

One of my go-tos is P20 Sun Care for Kids SPF 50+. It offers up to 10 hours of protection and up to 3 hours of water resistance. It’s great for sensitive skin and has a slightly moisturizing feel, which is a bonus.

Long-Lasting Sun Protection

tl;dr

Pros
  • Long-lasting, water-resistant, suitable for sensitive skin.
Cons
  • None noted.

Skin Aqua Super Moisture Barrier UV Gel SPF 50+ PA++++

I also recently started using the Skin Aqua Super Moisture Barrier UV Gel SPF 50+ PA++++. It’s incredibly lightweight, yet still offers excellent resistance. I’d say it’s better for normal to oily skin, while the P20 is a good choice for normal to dry and sensitive skin.

Lightweight Sun Protection Gel

tl;dr

Lightweight UV gel with high SPF protection.

Pros
  • Lightweight, high SPF, resistant.
Cons
  • Not ideal for dry skin.

Mary & May Vegan Peptide Bakuchiol Sun Stick SPF 50

For reapplication, I always pack a sunscreen stick. The Mary & May Vegan Peptide Bakuchiol Sun Stick SPF 50 is a favorite. It’s packed with peptides and bakuchiol for anti-aging benefits, and the texture is silky smooth and weightless. It's perfect for touch-ups on the go without messing up my makeup.

Supergoop! Unseen Sunscreen SPF 40

If I want a little coverage, I reach for Supergoop! Unseen Sunscreen SPF 40. It provides a beautiful, light tint that evens out my skin tone without feeling heavy. The travel size is perfect for trips, even though I find it a bit small for everyday use.

Lip and Eye Protection

For lips, I love Supergoop!’s Lipshade 100% Mineral Lip Color SPF 30. It offers pigmented, flattering color with a beautiful texture and sun protection. If you prefer a clear gloss, their Unseen Lip Screen is a great option. For daytime eye cream with SPF, I can’t recommend EltaMD UV AOX Eye SPF 30 enough. It has the most luxurious, lightweight, silky texture and provides hydration with a subtle tint that blends seamlessly. And, of course, my Medik8 Crystal Retinal Ceramide Eye 6 comes along for the ride – consistency with actives is key!

Cleansing on the Go

Cleansing is another area where I rely on travel-sized products. I’m a double cleansing devotee, so I always pack a mini of my favorite cleansing oil, the iUNIK Calendula Complete Cleansing Oil. It’s so calming and perfect for summer. I also bring along Dr. Sam’s Flawless Cleanser, a gentle second cleanser that I adore. Another essential? My UV Magic Mirror. It not only has a UV camera to check sunscreen application but also a regular mirror – a must-have for any purse.

Haircare Heroes

I will not travel without my Kumi Hairbrush. This thing is a multi-tasking marvel! It’s a fantastic detangler with two different brush heads and two vibration modes for a soothing scalp massage. But the real magic is the hair oil capsule and vaporizing technology. You turn it on, and the brush releases a fine mist of hair oil as you brush, evenly coating your strands without any greasy clumps. It’s like a daily moisturizing treatment for your hair! Each capsule lasts for six months with daily use, and the magnetic cover protects the bristles. Hairbrush, scalp treatment, and hair treatment all in one – brilliant!

Bug Bites Be Gone

Insect repellent is another non-negotiable for me. Mosquitoes (or whatever’s biting me) seem to be getting more vicious, or maybe I’m just becoming more allergic. Either way, insect bites are a major issue for me. I’ve found that OFF! isn’t as effective as it used to be, so I’ve switched to Picaridin. It’s safe for kids and even your face (though I don’t personally use it there). I also always pack my Beurer BR60 insect bite healer. It’s a few seconds of discomfort, but it really works!

Hats: Sun Protection in Style

Finally, hats! I never travel without a UPF hat. My trusty Eric Javits hat has been with me for over 20 years – it’s a testament to quality craftsmanship. It’s packable and has protected me through everything from desert camping to hot air ballooning. I recommend looking for hats with a wide brim and a UPF rating of 50+ for maximum protection.

So there you have it – my summer travel essentials! I hope this gives you some inspiration for your own summer adventures. Until next time, wishing you great skin health! Bye!
