Hey everyone! Welcome back! This is the second installment of my blemish-prone skincare routine series, focusing specifically on my nighttime ritual. If you missed the first part, be sure to check out my daytime routine where I break down everything I do in the mornings. This time, I'm diving deep into my evening skincare regimen, showing you exactly how I layer my products to combat blemishes and achieve that coveted healthy glow. So, let's get started!
The cornerstone of any effective skincare routine, especially at night, is cleansing. I always double cleanse to ensure I completely remove all traces of makeup, sunscreen, and the day's accumulated grime. This two-step process sets the stage for the rest of my routine and allows my skin to truly benefit from the products that follow.
My first cleanse utilizes a gel-based cleanser. While you can use any cleanser you prefer, I'm currently loving the BHA Clearing Cleanser for blemish-prone skin. This gem contains salicylic acid, a powerful ingredient known for its ability to fight breakouts. And the best part? I found it at Aldi! It's a fantastic dupe for the CeraVe Blemish Control Cleanser. I've been rigorously testing it, and I can confidently say that if you're seeking a budget-friendly alternative, this is it. I gently massage the cleanser onto my damp skin, ensuring I cover my entire face, working it in circular motions to effectively lift away impurities. After rinsing with lukewarm water, my skin already feels refreshed and ready for the next step.
My second cleanser is the Kojic Acid bath soap, a true dark spot-fading hero. This soap works wonders, but it's crucial to use it correctly. Many people make the mistake of applying it with wet hands, which dilutes its effectiveness. The key is to rub the soap between your dry hands to create a paste-like consistency. Then, apply this paste directly to areas prone to blemishes or hyperpigmentation. For me, that's my cheek area, where hormonal acne tends to leave scars, and around my mouth, where I experience hyperpigmentation. Once the paste dries down, which takes about two minutes, or until it feels like a dry face mask, rinse it off with lukewarm water. The difference is noticeable – my skin feels incredibly clean and prepped for the next steps.

With my face now clean and dry, it's time for toner. For my nighttime routine, I opt for a glycolic acid toner. This stuff is a game-changer, especially when combined with the Kojic Acid soap. You can find this toner from The Ordinary or in various stores. I saturate a cotton pad with the toner and gently sweep it across my face, avoiding the delicate eye area. Glycolic acid is an alpha-hydroxy acid (AHA) that exfoliates the skin by dissolving the bonds between dead skin cells, revealing brighter, smoother skin underneath. It also helps to improve skin texture, reduce discoloration, and prevent future breakouts. I allow the toner to sit on my skin for at least five minutes to ensure optimal absorption before moving on to the next step.

Serums are the workhorses of my skincare routine, delivering potent ingredients directly to the skin. Currently, I'm using the ANUA Niacinamide 10% + TXA 4% Dark Spot Correcting Serum. This serum is fantastic for addressing dark spots and uneven skin tone. It's gentle enough for daily use, both morning and night. I only need a couple of drops, which I gently massage into my skin until fully absorbed. Allowing each product to absorb properly before applying the next ensures maximum efficacy.

Blemishes and dark spots often come with the unwelcome companion of dark circles. When my hyperpigmentation flares up, my dark circles tend to worsen. To combat this, I use a brightening eye cream, specifically The Inkey List Caffeine Eye Cream. This eye cream is a staple in my routine, and its consistent presence speaks volumes about its effectiveness. A little goes a long way, so I apply a small amount and gently pat it in using my ring and index fingers, as they exert the least pressure on the delicate skin around the eyes.

At night, I prioritize hydration and opt for a rich, soothing moisturizer. My go-to is the Aveeno Daily Moisturizing Lotion. This classic moisturizer is a lifesaver, especially after using potent ingredients like glycolic, kojic, and salicylic acids. It calms and soothes my skin thanks to its oatmeal content, making it the perfect complement to my active nighttime routine. I generously apply the moisturizer all over my face, allowing it to sink in and replenish my skin's moisture barrier.

The final step in my nighttime routine is applying a face oil. My favorite is rosehip seed oil. I prefer rosehip oil over other options because of its natural brightening properties and its ability to target blemishes. I apply a few drops – not too much, especially during warmer months – and gently massage it into my skin. Rosehip oil is surprisingly lightweight and absorbs beautifully, leaving my skin feeling nourished and prepped for a good night's sleep. I wake up with a noticeable glow, and my skin looks healthy and revitalized.
And that concludes my nighttime skincare routine! This specific order and combination of products have been working wonders for my blemish-prone skin. Remember, consistency is key when it comes to skincare. While this routine works for me, it's important to find what works best for your individual skin type and concerns.
