We all dream of having that radiant, even skin tone, free from blemishes and dark spots. But achieving it can feel like a constant battle, especially with so many products and conflicting advice out there. That's why I've created this comprehensive, step-by-step morning routine designed to tackle blemishes, discoloration, and hyperpigmentation head-on. This routine, using these specific products in this specific order, is my personal go-to for achieving a brighter, more even complexion. Remember, using the wrong products in the wrong order can be ineffective or even worsen your skin concerns.
This is part one of a two-part series focusing on the morning routine. I'll be back with a separate post for the nighttime routine, as the products you use during the day and night should differ slightly. I want to keep things clear and concise, so breaking it down into two parts makes the most sense.
So, let's dive right into my morning blemish-busting routine!
Cleansing is the cornerstone of any effective skincare routine, and it's especially crucial when targeting blemishes. I use a double cleansing method in the morning, combining a gel-based cleanser and a Kojic Acid bar soap for a deep, purifying clean.
First, I use a gel cleanser to remove excess oil, dirt, and impurities. I'm currently loving the Aldi dupe for the CeraVe Blemish Prone Skin Cleanser. CeraVe has become quite expensive, and this dupe offers comparable results at a fraction of the cost. Its gel formula, containing salicylic acid, effectively unclogs pores and leaves my skin feeling refreshed and squeaky clean, perfectly prepped for the next steps. I splash my face with lukewarm water and gently massage the cleanser onto my skin, rinsing thoroughly.
Next, I incorporate the Kojic Acid bar soap, a true game-changer for fading blemishes quickly. I use it after the gel cleanser, almost like a targeted treatment mask. While my skin is still damp from the gel cleanser, I lather the Kojic Acid soap in my hands until it creates a rich, creamy lather. Then, I apply it directly to the areas where I experience blemishes, focusing on my cheeks and around my mouth, which are my problem areas. I tend to get clusters of blemishes on my cheeks, especially around my period, leaving behind stubborn dark marks. The area around my mouth is also prone to hyperpigmentation. So, the general rule is to apply the soap wherever you have blemishes.
A TikTok hack I've adopted is leaving the soap on for two minutes, like a mini face mask. This has significantly boosted the soap's effectiveness for me. After two minutes, I rinse it off with lukewarm water. You'll know it's time to rinse when the soap dries down and no longer transfers onto your fingers.

After cleansing, it's time to tone. I look for a toner with ingredients that target uneven skin tone and lighten blemishes. Vitamin C is a fantastic ingredient for this, and one of my personal favorites.
I use the Pixi Skintreat Vitamin C Tonic. This has been a long-standing favorite in my routine, and it works wonders for brightening my complexion. I pour a few drops into my palms and gently pat it onto my skin.
Important Tip: After applying each product, I let it sit on my skin for about five minutes before moving on to the next step. This allows each product to absorb fully and penetrate the skin without mixing and potentially diluting their effectiveness.

Serum time! I'm currently obsessed with the ANUA Dark Spot Correcting Serum. ANUA is a Korean skincare brand, and this serum is a testament to the effectiveness of Korean skincare formulations. It's packed with powerful ingredients and free of unnecessary fillers.
This serum contains 10% Niacinamide and 4% TXA, a potent combination for fading dark spots and evening out skin tone. I apply a couple of drops to each side of my face, gently rubbing it in and then patting it in for good measure. This serum delivers noticeable results quickly.

The delicate skin around our eyes deserves special attention. I use an eye cream that helps brighten the under-eye area and combat dark circles. Caffeine is an excellent ingredient to look for, as it naturally brightens discoloration.
My go-to is The Inkey List Caffeine Eye Cream. It's an affordable and effective option that has been a staple in my routine. I apply a small amount to my under-eye area using my ring finger and gently pat it in.

Especially during the summer months, when we're spending more time outdoors, a lightweight moisturizer is essential for the daytime. Overloading your skin with active ingredients can increase sun sensitivity, leading to sunburn and sun damage, which can undo all your hard work!
I use the Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel. Its gel consistency is super lightweight yet incredibly hydrating, thanks to hyaluronic acid. It provides the necessary moisture without being heavy or containing excessive active ingredients that could increase sun sensitivity. Simplicity is key, and this moisturizer embodies that perfectly.

The final and arguably most crucial step in any morning routine is sunscreen. This is non-negotiable, especially when using active ingredients like kojic acid, vitamin C, and salicylic acid, which can make your skin more susceptible to sun damage.
I use La Roche-Posay Anthelios UVMUNE 400 Invisible Fluid SPF50+. An SPF of 50 or higher is essential for adequate protection. I apply a generous amount and reapply every two hours, especially if I'm outdoors. This particular sunscreen doesn't leave a white cast on my skin, which is a huge bonus.
