Welcome to episode 1 of my back to the basics series, where I teach you how to confidently cook at home, one recipe at a time <3 Today we’re making steak! There are so many different ways to make a perfect steak, and I think I’ve tried them all. This is the method we use the most in our house because it’s simple (no preplanning needed), easy to control, and yields amazing results every time. Steak type: I’m using a NY strip steak in this video, which is favorite steak! It’s sort of similar to a ribeye except it’s a leaner and more affordable. Here’s the written recipe + a little more info that I couldn’t fit into the video: Tools you need: an instant read thermometer or meat thermometer (mine was $10 on amaz0n linked in my bio, it’s so worth having for so many reasons. It takes away the stress of knowing if your meat is cooked perfectly/safe to eat! I even use it for baked goods like breads and cakes to know when they’re done cooking. Directions 1. Preheat your pan over medium-high-heat, allowing to heat evenly for at least 7 minutes or until evenly heated. I recommend using a stainless steel or cast iron pan, but use what you have! 2. Preheat your oven to 230F. 3. Meanwhile, get your steak out and pat it dry with paper towels. Give it a generous sprinkling of coarse salt and black pepper on all sides, gently pressing it into the steak. 4. Pour a neutral oil with a high smoke point into your pan, enough to thinly cover the bottom of the pan. I love using @algaecookingclub oil for steaks, and some other great options are: avocado oil, beef tallow, peanut oil, or ghee, just to name a few. Once the oil is in the pan, *gently* set in the steak. Be slow, you don’t want to get burnt from the oil splashing. You can use tongs to do this if you’d like. 5. Let the steak cook for a few minutes on each side, including the edges, until it’s formed a golden brown delicious crust. Instructions will be continued and pinned in the comments, sorry I’m out of room up here!🫶 #howtocook #homemaking #girlswhogrill #learningtocook #easyrecipe
