Antioxidant Protection and De-Puffing Power
It's that time of year again! December has rolled around, and I'm thrilled to share my curated list of the absolute best eye serums I've used throughout 2024. I've already revealed my favorite eye creams of the year (you can find that post here!), and my top anti-aging picks are coming soon, so make sure you stay tuned for those. But for now, let's dive into the world of eye serums and discover the transformative power of these potent elixirs.
This year, I've been absolutely captivated by the Lancôme Rénergie H.C.F. Triple Serum. You might recall my previous review of the Rénergie face serum, the innovative formula housed in three separate chambers to preserve the potency of Ferulic Acid, Hyaluronic Acid, Niacinamide, and Vitamin C. This eye serum adopts a similar tri-chamber design, a feature I find incredibly ingenious. By keeping the ingredients separate until the moment of dispensing, their effectiveness is maximized.
This eye serum's star players are Niacinamide and a stable Vitamin C derivative (Ethyl Ascorbic Acid), a dynamic duo that works wonders for brightening the under-eye area. Niacinamide is also a powerhouse ingredient for addressing dark circles, making this serum a great choice for those concerned with under-eye shadows. The formula also boasts a tripeptide complex, known for its firming properties and ability to combat fine lines and wrinkles. Hyaluronic Acid provides deep hydration and plumping, while Vitamin F tackles texture irregularities like flakiness, roughness, and crepiness.
My experience with this serum has been nothing short of delightful. It leaves my under-eye area feeling incredibly soft, smooth, and noticeably brighter. Suitable for all skin types, it also effectively reduces puffiness, making it a perfect addition to my morning routine. While it can be used twice daily, I find once in the morning is sufficient for my needs.
A word of caution for those with sensitive skin: like most Lancôme products, this serum contains fragrance. While I personally enjoy the delicate scent, it does dissipate quickly after application. However, even a hint of fragrance can be irritating for some, so if you have sensitivities, this might not be the ideal choice for you.
The serum comes in a sleek pump-style bottle containing the standard 15ml of product. The three serums dispense simultaneously, creating a potent cocktail ready to revitalize your under-eye area. A half-pump is all you need for both eyes – remember, less is more when it comes to the delicate skin around the eyes. Over-application can lead to migration of the product, potentially causing blurry vision, redness, watering, and even burning.

Pros
Cons
This serum is a returning champion from last year's best-of list, and its continued excellence earns it another well-deserved mention. The Ordinary Multi-Peptide Eye Serum is a truly remarkable option for addressing a multitude of concerns, including fine lines, wrinkles, puffiness, and dark circles, all at an incredibly affordable price point.
This serum is packed with a potent blend of peptides that work synergistically to firm the delicate skin around the eyes. Niacinamide and Caffeine team up to brighten dark circles, while a touch of Glycolic Acid, though present in a lower concentration, contributes to texture correction. Glycerin adds a boost of hydration, ensuring the serum feels comfortable and nourishing on the skin. It layers beautifully under sunscreen and makeup and can be incorporated into both your morning and evening routines. Furthermore, it plays well with other actives like copper peptides or retinoids, making it a versatile addition to any skincare regimen.
The serum comes in a simple, no-frills bottle containing 15ml of product. Its texture is slightly watery, with a subtle thickness imparted by the glycerin. This lightweight formula absorbs quickly and effortlessly, leaving the skin feeling refreshed and revitalized. If you're on a budget and appreciate The Ordinary's effective yet affordable approach to skincare, this serum is an absolute must-try.

While not strictly an eye serum, The Ordinary's Argireline Solution 10% deserves a spot on this list for its targeted action against dynamic wrinkles. Argireline, often dubbed "Botox in a bottle," is a peptide (Hexapeptide-8) that works by reducing muscle contractions, similar to the mechanism of Botox injections.

It's important to note that Argireline is not as potent as injectables, and its effects are temporary. However, it can be a valuable tool for smoothing out expression lines, particularly crow's feet, the "11s" between the eyebrows, and nasolabial folds. I've found it helpful for temporarily minimizing these dynamic wrinkles, providing a smoother, more youthful appearance. Consistency is key with Argireline, just as it is with Botox – the results will fade once you discontinue use. While this offers a temporary solution, the Ordinary Multi-Peptide Eye Serum mentioned earlier is a better choice for long-term, more permanent correction of under-eye concerns.
This year, I rediscovered the SkinCeuticals AOX Eye Gel, a product I used to rave about years ago, and it's still a fantastic option, especially for your morning routine.

This gel is a powerhouse of antioxidants, including a potent dose of pure Vitamin C (L-Ascorbic Acid) specifically formulated for the delicate eye area. It contains 1% Phloretin, another powerful antioxidant, along with 5% L-Ascorbic Acid and 0.5% Ferulic Acid, which enhances the effectiveness of Vitamin C and other antioxidants. Caffeine is included to combat dark circles and puffiness, while Ruscus Aculatus extract, derived from an evergreen shrub, provides remarkable de-puffing benefits. As someone who often wakes up with puffy eyes, I've found this serum to be incredibly effective, making a noticeable difference within just 20 minutes. Beyond de-puffing, it also brightens the under-eye area, addresses fine lines and wrinkles, and improves overall texture.
The gel comes in a 15ml tube and has a slight orange tint, which doesn't stain the skin. A small amount is all you need for both eyes, and it spreads beautifully, creating a smooth canvas for makeup and sunscreen application. While it can be used at night, I prefer incorporating it into my morning routine for its antioxidant protection against environmental aggressors like pollution. It also provides a subtle, healthy glow and a boost of hydration.
This serum is a true holy grail product for me. I've been using the Dr. Dennis Gross Advanced Retinol + Ferulic Triple Correction Eye Serum for almost six years, and it consistently delivers remarkable results.

Pros
Cons
This serum is one of the best I've ever encountered for addressing signs of aging around the eyes. Its key ingredient, Retinol, can be tricky to use in this delicate area, but this formula delivers the benefits of Retinol without the harshness often associated with face retinol products. However, it's important to start slowly, using it a couple of nights a week initially, and gradually increasing usage as tolerated to minimize potential dryness and irritation.
In addition to Retinol, this serum boasts a comprehensive list of beneficial ingredients, including Bakuchiol (a plant-based retinol alternative), Rambutan (for elasticity), Ferulic Acid, Peptides, Centella Asiatica, Panthenol, Salicylic Acid, Mandelic Acid, Hyaluronic Acid, and more. This powerhouse of ingredients works synergistically to address a wide range of concerns.
One of the reasons I initially started using this serum was to combat milia, those tiny white bumps that can appear around the eyes. This serum has been incredibly effective in preventing and diminishing milia, and I haven't experienced any in years, thanks to this product! While it may take a few months to see the full extent of its benefits, the results are well worth the wait.
I use this serum a few nights a week, strictly at night, due to the Retinol content. If you choose to use it in the morning, be sure to apply sunscreen diligently. Its gel texture feels hydrating upon application, and a small amount is sufficient for both eyes. It absorbs quickly and doesn't leave a noticeable glow, but it will contribute to a brighter, more even skin tone over time. I always follow up with an eye cream or moisturizer to lock in hydration, especially when using retinol.
Last but certainly not least, the NIOD Fractionated Eye-Contour Concentrate is another long-time favorite.

While it doesn't contain Retinol, this serum boasts a potent blend of peptides that work to firm the skin and address fine lines and wrinkles. It also includes L-Ascorbic Acid (pure Vitamin C), Ruscus Aculatus for de-puffing, Niacinamide, and various hydrating ingredients. This comprehensive formula tackles dark circles, texture irregularities, crepiness, and more. NIOD is a more advanced brand than The Ordinary, utilizing more sophisticated ingredients. If you're seeking a high-performance eye serum, this is an excellent choice.
The serum has a watery texture with a slight thickness. It layers beautifully under makeup and sunscreen without pilling, making it a seamless addition to your skincare routine. I highly recommend this serum for anyone looking to address a wide range of under-eye concerns.
