Some of you may have noticed the Missha eye cream I recommended in my entry-level Hanbang skincare guide has been discontinued. But fret not! Missha relaunched their Hanbang line earlier this year under a new name: Chogongjin. Naturally, I acquired the entire line upon its release and have been diligently testing it over the past year to prepare a comprehensive brand guide for you in January.

For this collaboration with Stylevena, I specifically requested to highlight the Gin Boosting Essence, a true standout in the Chogongjin collection. This impressive line targets skin losing elasticity, seamlessly blending traditional Korean medicine with cutting-edge scientific advancements. The formula incorporates a time-honored remedy to fortify skin resilience against environmental stressors, red cultivated ginseng to stimulate collagen production, and micronized collagen particles (processed through fermentation) for enhanced absorption and visible reduction of fine lines.

Of all the Chogongjin lines, I believe this one is the most effectively formulated. It genuinely delivers on its promises, and every single product has impressed me. The Boosting Essence, in particular, makes a noticeable difference with each application. Its luxurious, dense gel formula melts effortlessly into the skin, providing deep nourishment from the moment it touches your face. When I first experienced the Chogongjin Gin Boosting Essence, it instantly brought to mind another iconic product: the Sulwhasoo First Care Activating Serum. I suspect some of you might have made the same connection. The texture, application experience, and overall performance share remarkable similarities. Both are anti-aging treatments rooted in the wisdom of traditional Korean medicine, designed to be applied after cleansing to prepare the skin for optimal absorption of subsequent skincare steps.

Initially, I perceived them as nearly identical, but the more I used the Chogongjin essence, the more subtle yet significant distinctions I uncovered. I've been a devoted user of the Sulwhasoo serum for years, and what I cherish most about it is its featherlight, toner-like consistency combined with the deep hydration of a rich serum. Consistent use leaves my skin looking rested, revitalized, and radiant.

The Chogongjin essence, while not as overtly revitalizing, offers a significantly more pronounced tightening effect. Therefore, if your primary concerns are early wrinkles, dullness, and uneven texture, the Sulwhasoo serum might be a more suitable choice. However, if you're experiencing a more noticeable loss of elasticity and firmness, the Chogongjin essence will likely deliver more impactful results.

su:m37 (pronounced simply as “SUUM” in Korea) is a brand built upon the transformative power of fermentation technology. It's the only one among my favorite Korean skincare brands that I haven't yet explored in detail on my channel. I initially envisioned a video dedicated to fermented skincare, but the topic proved incredibly vast. Consequently, I'll be dedicating a comprehensive brand guide to su:m37 next year, delving deep into their unique fermentation techniques.

The Bright Award Enzyme Powder Wash, like all su:m37 products, is rich in beneficial fermentation byproducts. Most notably, it contains papain, a potent anti-inflammatory enzyme derived from papaya, and NAPS (N-Acetylphytosphingosine), a yeast-derived phytoceramide clinically proven to strengthen the skin barrier and prevent the formation of dark spots. These enzymes gently exfoliate, effectively removing dead skin cells to reveal a brighter, softer, and smoother complexion.

The powder wash is packaged in a box of 40 individual sachets, but I find that one sachet provides enough product for two or three uses, making it incredibly economical. If you wear makeup, ensure thorough removal before using the wash. Simply pour approximately one-third of the sachet into your palm, gradually add water, and gently work the powder into your desired consistency. Less water creates a more intensive exfoliation, while more water results in a gentle foaming cleanser. Use it as you would a regular cleanser, massaging it onto damp skin and rinsing thoroughly. This powder wash is particularly beneficial for thin, aging skin prone to slow cell turnover, as it gently exfoliates without compromising the delicate skin barrier.

The History of Whoo reigns supreme as my all-time favorite Korean skincare brand. (I have a dedicated video exploring their fascinating story and meticulous research if you're interested!). Like Chogongjin and Sulwhasoo, they masterfully blend modern science with the time-tested principles of traditional Korean medicine. They offer a diverse range of lines targeting various aspects of aging, but the Gongjinhyang collection serves as their entry-level line for addressing early signs of aging.

This sleeping repair mask is an overnight treatment designed to improve both skin texture and elasticity. Its dense yet surprisingly silky texture envelops the skin, creating a protective barrier that locks in moisture and nutrients throughout the night. Unlike other products in this line, this mask boasts a rich yet non-sticky finish, making it comfortable for both face and neck application without the worry of hair sticking or messy pillows. It also comes in a generous size at a more accessible price point than other Whoo creams, making it an excellent introduction to the brand. I frequently receive inquiries about products for reducing neck wrinkles, and this sleeping mask is a fantastic solution.

This is my undisputed holy grail eye cream! The Hwanyu line represents Whoo’s most premium offering, meticulously formulated with 74 of the most prized ingredients in traditional Korean medicine. My first encounter with this eye cream was through a small sample, and I was instantly captivated. I wasn't even aware of its specific ingredients at the time, but the transformative results within the first few weeks were simply astonishing. Its thick, balm-like texture absorbs beautifully, delivering intense nourishment akin to a luxurious face oil. It’s truly phenomenal for smoothing texture and revitalizing the delicate under-eye area, making it appear more toned, firm, and vibrant. I wholeheartedly recommend this to anyone skeptical about the effectiveness of eye creams—prepare to be converted!

This sunscreen was one of my favorite Korean skincare releases this year, and I'm featuring it again because it seems specifically tailored for dry, aging skin. Its dense cream formula effectively fills in fine lines and cracks, leaving skin incredibly smooth and supple. I find it particularly helpful for addressing roughness and flakiness, common concerns for mature skin. It also provides exceptional skin barrier support, protecting against environmental aggressors and reducing sensitivity to temperature fluctuations. Finally, it’s formulated with added protection against infrared light, a known contributor to pigmentation issues like melasma.
